At Softpak, we are constantly looking for innovative solutions to help companies better understand and leverage their data. A powerful application is the use of Microsoft Power BI, an application to analyze and visualize data. In this interview, with Dennis Van Leeuwen, Software Consultant at Softpak, we look at the benefits of dashboards and how they enable organizations with their decision making process.

Can you explain a recent project?

“We recently partnered with RCC, a company that specializes in the sale and rental of containers, where they also use our container management system, Softpak Sales & Rental. They wanted to gain insight into various aspects of their business, such as the number of new customers in the last 30 days, the number of open promotions, touchpoints, and new orders.

With the help of Power BI, we developed a dashboard that allows them to see all this information at a glance.”

What are operational KPIs and is Softpak strong in them?

“Operational KPIs are essential data that allows businesses to quickly assess how they are performing. Consider, for example, the number of operations carried out or the number of containers. When this data is available in Softpak, it can be easily visualized in a Power BI dashboard.

Softpak has built expertise in collecting and analyzing operational data, which allows us to support companies in translating data into valuable insights.”

Is it easy for customers to extend their dashboards?

“Some large customers have their own departments dedicated to developing dashboards. In such cases, Softpak ensures that the necessary data is available so that the company can develop the dashboard itself.

For other companies, we take full responsibility and build the dashboard for them, while we collect and process the data.”

What will be the trend for data visualization?

“Previously, there were mainly requests for management reports, with the emphasis on higher management levels. However, nowadays we see more and more demand for insights that show how a company is performing on a daily basis. Employees in the workplace want to know how they have performed and what exactly they have done.

In addition, managers also want employees to gain insight so that they can plan better, for example in terms of the number of trucks that arrive in a day. Power BI offers the opportunity to gain these operational insights, and the trend is that more and more companies want to take advantage of them.”

Are there any alternative tools available?

“In addition to Power BI, there are also other tools available, such as Qlik Sense. It offers similar data visualization capabilities, but Power BI remains the market leader in this space thanks to its powerful capabilities and support from Microsoft.”
